Legal expertise. Strategic insight. Trusted by leaders in the equestrian and racing world.

PURE Equine Law specialises in providing legal and commercial advice to clients across the equestrian, racing and active recreation industries. We offer clear, practical guidance to help businesses manage risk, resolve issues and support strategic growth.

The horse world is unlike any other. It is high-risk, highly regulated and deeply technical. Businesses in this space need more than general legal advice – they need a partner who understands their industry from the inside.

Founded in 2021 by lawyer and former competitive horse rider Emily Purvis, PURE was built to provide legal services exclusively to the equine sector. Today, we are proud to work with a range of forward-thinking businesses across the equestrian, racing, sport, fitness and recreation industries.

Who we work with.

Our clients include agistment centres, stud farms, trainers, vets, riding schools, race clubs, arena hire venues and equestrian brands.

We also advise businesses beyond the horse world – including sporting clubs and associations, fitness studios, gyms, adventure tourism operators and other high-risk activity providers.

Clients rely on us for legal support across all areas of their business. This includes contracts, risk management, regulatory compliance, litigation, debt recovery, employment law and more. We work closely with a small number of clients to deliver exceptional service and build trusted, long-term relationships. Our strength lies in understanding our clients’ business as if it were our own. This insight allows us to deliver commercial legal advice and strategic guidance to identify risks, spot opportunities and drive sustainable growth.

Meet the Team

Emily Purvis

FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL LAWYER

An award-winning lawyer and founder, Emily is recognised for her leadership in legal innovation and for establishing PURE Equine Law as a leading national practice.

Emily began her legal career at top-tier international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills in 2017. She practised in Perth, Melbourne and Hong Kong and gained experience advising on corporate governance and regulatory matters, complex commercial litigation, financial services regulation, insurance disputes, employment law and corporate transactions.

A lifelong horsewoman, Emily started riding at 3 years old and went on to become a regular competitor in state dressage events. She has since retired from competitive sport but enjoys quiet, relaxed weekend rides with her horse Prinz. Drawing on three decades of experience inside the equestrian industry, top-tier legal experience and strong commercial insight, Emily founded PURE Equine Law in 2021 to provide legal services exclusively to the equine sector. She advises on matters including liability and risk, disputes, business structuring and regulatory compliance - grounded in a deep understanding of the industry’s unique challenges.

Emily’s work with PURE Equine Law has received significant national recognition. In 2025, she was named a winner of the Business News 40Under40 award and received the Professional Services category prize, recognising her as one of the state’s leading entrepreneurs and future business leaders. She was a finalist for Sole Practitioner of the Year at the 2024 Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards, placing her among the top 10 solo lawyers nationwide. In 2023, she received the Lawyers Weekly 30Under30 – Sports and Entertainment award, recognising her innovation and impact in the delivery of sports law in Australia.

Alongside her legal practice, Emily has led the way in legal education for the equestrian industry. She was selected to present at Equitana Melbourne in 2024 and her digital legal content has reached over 100,000 people – approximately 25% of Australia’s equestrian market.

Emily also serves on the board of Pony Club WA, where she contributes legal and governance expertise to one of Western Australia’s largest equestrian sport organisations.
